Concessions

As a customer, you may qualify for various concessions administered by EnergyAustralia on behalf of the ACT State Government. Eligibility conditions vary and are subject to change from time to time. Please read the information provided for each concession below to see if you are eligible.

Utilities Concession

The Utilities Concession covers electricity, natural gas, water and sewerage and is paid as a daily amount to eligible electricity accounts.

Only one Utilities Concession can be claimed per eligible electricity account. 

The daily rates from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024 is based on an annual concession of $750 (excluding GST), with a higher daily rate applied in winter than summer. 

The daily summer rate for the Utilities Concession is:

  •  $0.95071 (excluding GST) per day from 1 November 2023 to 31 May 2024

The daily winter rate for the Utilities Concession is:

  •  $3.57843 (excluding GST) per day from 1 July 2023 to 31 October 2023 and 1 June 2024 to 30 June 2024.

To be eligible, the electricity account holder must hold one of the following concession cards and is only available at the account holder’s principal place of residence:

  •  Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card
  •  Centrelink Health Care Card
  •  Department of Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card
  •  Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card (for recipients of War Widow or War Widower, Totally and Permanently Incapacitated or Extreme Disablement Adjustment pensions).
  •  ACT Services Access Card

How to apply – ACT Services Access Card

You can apply directly with the ACT Government via one of the following methods: 

  •  Call ACT Government on 02 6207 0028
  •  Email ACT Government on concessions@act.gov.au.

Applications for this card type cannot be assessed by EnergyAustralia. Once the ACT Government has determined you are eligible for the Utilities Concessions, EnergyAustralia will be notified. We will then apply credit to your account of $800 (excluding GST) which covers the entire 2023/2024 year.

Additional one-off $50 Utilities Concession for 2023/2024 year

In the 2022-23 financial year, an additional one-off concession of $50 (excluding GST) will be provided for the utilities concession by the ACT Government. If you’re an existing concession customer of EnergyAustralia, we will automatically apply the additional concession to your account on 3 July 2023. You should see this on your next bill issued from 3 July 2023 as an adjustment called: ACT Government Electricity Rebate.

If you join EnergyAustralia after 1 July 2023 your previous retailer should have provided you this additional concession. If this has not occurred, you will need to contact the ACT Government office directly on 02 6207 0028 or email them at concessions@act.gov.au. The ACT Government will determine whether we need to apply the additional concession and will inform us of the outcome.

Life Support Rebate

If you use electrically-operated life support equipment as prescribed by an ACT medical practitioner necessary in the treatment of a life-threatening condition, you may be entitled to a life support rebate on your electricity account.

Eligible Machines

Refer to the ACT government’s life support website, for details of eligible equipment.

Daily Rate

The Life Support rebate is applied as a daily amount. From 1 July 2023 the rate is $0.34973 per day .

Please note - you do not have to be a concession card holder to be eligible for the Life Support Rebate.

How to apply

To register:

  1. Download and complete the Life Support Application Form
  2. Have your doctor sign it to confirm that you need the equipment.

  3. Send the completed form to:
